Don't come for me. I've done this similar type of activity at least three times in the past year, in forms like writing a diary entry as my future self, constructing my ideal home/job/life in ten years, etc. So I have done this work. Unfortunately not every exercise is helpful for every person. That's just life.
I know I've chatted with you all on this blog before about reaching goals, and trying to figure out what to reach for when you get there.
And like I said, I've done similar exercises before. But the problem is, I either think the vision is too big to be possible, or it's absolutely achievable, and then I achieve it only to struggle with where to go next.
So I've decided to stop making huge long term goals. I've decided to stop going through my day with vision boards and all that jazz. And what I'm going to do for now is ask myself...
"I wonder what would happen if..."
There are so many books I've read and workshops I've done that I've gleaned a great deal of insight from, but the problem always circles back around to me knowing what I want out of life. And frankly...I don't.
I couldn't have dreamed of knowing the people I know and call friends today. I couldn't have dreamed I'd be a published author. Those seemed like crazy things until they became my reality. I went Pokemon hunting at a local zoo with an author whose books I know are on another level above mine, and who is frankly an idol in this business. I've taken chances and asked for things, and been given opportunities that I couldn't have planned for in a million years.
What I did do, was jump on opportunities when they came my way. Sure. I've gotten rejected too. Plenty of times. But since I wasn't "planning" on success or didn't have that particular instance as one of my "dream goals", it wasn't a big deal. I simply wanted to see what would happen if I tried.
So no, sorry. I'm not going to spend my time crafting a long drawn out dream world. Because I want to achieve so much more than my piddly brain can offer. And I can't wait to see what happens next.
Today instead of dreaming...I'm going to give something new a try. I wonder what would happen if...you know what, I need to go send a few emails. ;)
What about you? If you're stuck let you mind wander today. Maybe if you're in the same boat as me you can ask yourself... "I wonder what would happen if..." And let me know where it takes you!
