Being that I am working on my DMA Files books at the moment, I decided to search for robots. While the internet usually takes me to weird places, this time I was taken down some roads that were absolutely fascinating.
I play with the idea of artificial intelligence and sentient robots in my books, but I had no idea that we had come so close in reality.
The first bot I stumbled across was "Bina48".
The idea of putting a human's consciousness into machine is not a new one, but outside of movies, I hadn't seen it in practice before.
Would you ever want your online essence to live on after you're gone?
Makes you think a little more before posting a rant online, doesn't it? And holy smokes...think about the writers and all that batshit crazy search engine data they'd have on us? I don't want to think about the robot that would come from my google profile. *shudders*
Then I came across "Sophia". I think I have seen her before. If I remember correctly, there is some video of this bot talking about "destroying all humans", but it's totally taken out of context.
Sophia is much more what I think about as an example for my books. And while this whole frontier for sentient AI is not a reality in our everyday lives, I have to wonder how far off it is.
I love ideas that challenge social norms and spark conversation. Robots and their roles as independent beings? Definitely something that makes our minds do backflips.
I'm completely intrigued by the idea. I don't understand the inner workings at all, (I couldn't fix my own toaster if it came down to it) but I'm in awe of how far technology has come.
Do robots like this freak you out? Or are you fascinated?
